Hi Y'all. Just got back from 2 days yote hunting. Called 4 in, missed 3, 4th didn't get a shot at. The whole time I was pondering, what bullet is best for my AR? Currently, I'm shooting factory fodder in my ar, 52 grain ultramax. Not sure what they load it with, but the opening in the hollowpoint looks more like a speer tnt. I switched from using 40gr V-max handloads which has worked fine in the past, but I read too much about 40 v-max's having a "splatter" effect on bad hits, so opted for the 52 grain ultramax. I have a 1 in 9 twist barrel, so am wondering what the best bullet out there for consistent kills would be on yotes? I have some 65 grain gamekings I'm thinking of loading up for it... I'm not worried about the hides. Mostly worried about the feeding, accuracy, and consistent expansion to drop yotes. Might switch to the 55 grain B-tip again.
On the same note, I'd also like to know what 20 cal bullet seems to work best in the AR as well. I really am thinking of getting another upper in 204 or one of the 20 cal variants.
Oh, side note, I had one coyote I couldn't get a range on, figured it was 600 yards. Just switched to a nikon 4.5x14 scope on the ar, and zoomed up all the way, didn't look like the yote was out that too far. So I aimed at the 600 yd mark, let it rip. Was 15 feet below the yote! It sat there, so I shot again, and same thing! 3rd shot I adjusted, and was still low, but close enough to make it run.
