Entiat bucks down
« on: November 18, 2010, 10:41:32 AM »
Where to start.....We had 3 tags in camp mine, my brothers, and wazzu99. (his story and pics are on here already) He came up a week before us with his wife and tagged out on a nice 4x4.  The 3 of us were coming from different areas so we met at Coopers and then to set up camp.  When we got there it had snowed the night before, about and inch, and was already melting off.  That day it didn't get over 35 degrees.  The bucks that we saw were rutting hard.  That evening we saw 15 bucks, of which 7 would have been shooters at any other time.  We averaged seing 50-60 deer/day and about 12 bucks.  We had deer in camp and even had a nice little 4x4 150 yards from camp.  Wazzu99 and I had to take the bullets away from my brother at that point.  After a couple days of passing on bucks we finally spotted a nice migrator.  Wazzu spotted him and my brother and I both got set up.  Ranged him at about 160 yards.  I tell Ryan(my brother) to go ahead and take him.  He got settled and pulled the trigger, "click."  I said thats not good, Wazzy99 laughed and Ryan dropped an @#$@%#!  He was so excited he forgot to put one in the chamber.(must run in the family)  So I ask him do you want me to shoot it?  No response, so I asked again.  He finally settled down and dropped him where he stood.  Let me tell you, this is the biggest bodied deer any of us have ever seen!  It was an absolute pig.  At the butcher, they told him it was the second biggest deer they had taken in all year.  After that the weather didn't cooperate.  It warmed up to 60 degrees.  Then the winds came....we were on top of Baldy glassing and it was rediculous.  At least 80 miles an hour!  We got the hell off the mt.  The next morning we had trees down all around camp and across some roads.  Long story short, we hunted high we hunted low, hiked into some basins 2-3 miles off the roads.  Passed on a lot of deer, several bigger that the one I ended up with.  We made 2 stocks on nice bucks that didn't work out.  I originally was holding out for one of the big boys, but we just weren't seeing them and with the weather....well I decided to go back after a buck that I had passed on the night before.  Once again wazzu99 spotted him, and after a 150 yard shot he was down.   He isn't the biggest or baddest but I am happy with him.  You can't see it in the pics but he has a smaller 2nd eye guard on his left side.  In the end this was an awesome hunt.  Got to meet Muleysniper and Antlerking and watch him take his buck.  :)  Thanks to everyone who gave us advise and ideas.  Dropped him off at Bucklucky's last night, By the way Charlie, NORM CHARLTON.  Almost called you on the way home!

If I add these right, the 1st few pics should be Ryans buck.

Wazzu99, for whatever reason I didn't get pics with you other than grilling heart in the background.  If you have any, get them on here!

Holy smokes! Both nice bucks, but the one looks like an elk.   :o   Any idea what it weighed?

It was a great hunt.  Fun seeing all the deer moving.  Give Cascade props for holding out as long as he did and passing on the nice bucks waiting for a big one.  Wish we had weather to get a monster for you.  Thanks to Wazzu for being the eagle eye on both our deer!

At Bobcat...the hanging weight was around 170.  I can tell you that it took all we had to get it out!

We were talking a little baseball and hunting shows and couldn't think of his name.  Was driving us crazy.
