Ghillie Suits - Do you use them for yotes?

I got the Sapper suit from APC and tried it a few times but my success rate so far hasn't been good with it or without.  I didn't think all the yarn clumps looked natural so i spent an hour or  so breaking them apart.  I guess the clumps are easier for the little Chinese kids to sew onto the garments.  I like the hat, because the mesh hides my glasses without fogging the lenses like other face masks do.  if i have a ways to walk to my stand i'll sling the bag over my shoulder and put it on when i get there.  Only thing is, i wish they made leggings, because when i'm sitting,my lower legs are exposed.  My old bones don't take to kneeling much any more.

Big10 reminds me why I have passed on the idea before, getting hung up in the sage.  Seems like I'm always getting hung up on something.  I actually took some boat camo netting in the past, made a half@ss poncho to throw over me.  Not bad, but still catches things when hiking through the brush.

Usually have gloves on too. This time, I think I'd forgotten them...

the ones you buy will only frustrate you and fall apart. I know from experience. I said the hell with it and made one using a old flight suit. you can find everything to make one usually at a army navy surplus. get a flight suit for 20 buck used and then buy some burlap from walmart and have fun with it. you will amaze yourself what you can make. check out how to make one on you tube. if you choose to make your own be ready to put some time in drinking beer and sitting down. but like i said its well worth it and you will know how to fix and repair your OWN ghille suit. for snow check out the cold weather parka suits they have at cabelas.

I just ordered a sapper yesterday from AllPredatorCalls.com since they are on sale for 60 bucks. We'll see if I end up tossing it on the ground after trying to walk thru sagebrush and getting snagged.

I have had one of the sapper suits from APC for a while, and use it a fair amount.  They do pick up sticks, twigs and brush a lot, as any ghillie of that style will tend to do. The desert/sage/grasslands camo works really well for eastern WA and Or though. I have been able to set in the middle of a pretty open area with my call a ways away and have animals come into the open.   

For some areas I think a ghillie is pretty ideal as it will break up your outline a lot without having to have other cover behind you or close by.  In areas where it's too big of a pain because of snagging and such, one of the other style of ghillies with the fluffy shards of cloth stips work pretty well and don't pick up as much vegetation.

One thing you will notice when your ghillie arrives is that it will have a very strong textile smell to it.  Hang it outside for several days, and then put it in a bag with some sage for a while.

You don't need a ghillie everywhere, but there are areas where they are a really good choice.

It was used over other clothing, and rolled into a tidy little cylinder when not in use.  I am looking into buying one, perhaps along with ghillie gaiters.

Trust me guys after buying several cheaper ghillies and a couple of more expensive ghillies ill tell you straight up you cannot get a better ghillie for calling coyotes the a rancho safari. they are light, breath well enough to even wear in the summer, and will not smell funny ,catch fire, or get caught up on everything in sight including your guns action  . they are the best out there

This is not the case if you get the rancho safari suit. They are top notch quality. More expensive but well worth it if you don't have the time or inclination to make your own.

I have one that has 600 sq in of Hunter Orange strips sewn in mostly in the back and a few strips in the front to be able to hunt preds during modern deer season.  I leave the front open with an orang shirt underneath and an orange hat.  When I get to a stand I pull the hood over the hat and zip up the front,  all ready to call and still meet the letter of the law.

I've tried one over here on the wet side but they get so heavy when wet and take a long time to dry that it stays in the closet most of the time.

For hunting on the eastside most of the places I hunt have pretty heavy cover and haven't ever seen the need for a gillie, Natgear and keeping still seems to work for me plus I use a remote caller and decoy alot and that takes the focus off of me.

Jerry, which model and color Shaggie ghillie suit works best for you? I do not like the longer ones as they catch on everything when in heavy brush. We talked once when you came into Wholesale Sports a few weeks ago.

I use the short jacket with attached hood, perfect for a caller even if you sit on a stool . no need for a long coat or gaiters . I have two one in jerryflage and one in four seasons. if i were to only own one it would be the jerryflage. no not named after me , the owner of rancho safari is named jerry . 
this shaggie is awsome you never get hung up on anything and you dont even have to take it off when you get into your rig to relocate .

I just spoke with the "other Jerry" at Rancho Safari, and ordered me up one of their short jackets. He suggested dragging it in the dirt and shaking it out, to get the right, local look.  (That probably beats waiting for a Friday night's crawl home.  )
