Is this Moultrie any good?

I orderded my first trail cam today. I ordered a Moultrie Game Spy D-55. I got it from Cabellas for 79.99. The camera will be used on our 6 acre lot. We have quite a few deer. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? What kind of luck have you had. Are the pictures ok? Any tips will be appreciated.  Thank you very much.

I had two but one got ripped off.  Love them for the $.  Can't go wrong.  I will be replacing my other one very soon.

moultrie makes great cameras. i have used them, and they have worked great.

i've got two as well. like them. you get what ya pay for, but i have not had anyprobs yet.

I only use moultrie,  they have held up well, not bad on batteries, use at least a 2gb SD card.  When I check them I just change batteries and the card and onto the next one.

Good camera. But here is a NewsFlash! They advertise it will hold a 16 GB SD Card. BS! I put a 4 GB in and half the pictures were messed up. Brought it into a photo shop and they told me the camera isn't fast enough for that big of a card. The 2 GB works fine. Called Moultrie and of course they denied it and said a 4 GB works fine. Also called Cabela's and told them Moultrie is false advertising. All you have to do is look at the other camera's and they are not advertising that they can hold a 16 GB. Even the faster camera's. But for the money, it's worth it with only a 2GB bottomline! I read reviews on all of them at that price and tried to come up with every reason to bring it back. Still have it and paid $20 more than you did.

I have a Moultrie D-40, when it works the pictures are good.  Seems to not reliably stay turned on and also has a really slow trigger speed.  Seems to eat the batteries as well.  I like my Stealthcam better, though it seems slow as well.

They are a lot of fun.

All you have to do is look at the other camera's and they are not advertising that they can hold a 16 GB. Even the faster camera's.

My Bushnell's can use 16 gig cards. Says so right on the box.

I agree. My older Moultrie's (and newer ones that friends/family own) have the ability to go to sleep but never wake up, even with good batteries.

I got started into this hobby with a couple moultrie cams. Then someone did me a favor and stole them. I spent a little more money on a couple Bushnell trophy cams but have probably saved the difference in batteries already and taken more pics as well as better quality. IMo Moultrie has fallen behind in quality, size vs price.
I can run 1 and maybe 2 trophy cams for over 1 year on $5.00  worth of AA batteries. I couldn't run 1 d-40 for 2 weeks on $5


For a beginer the Moultrie 5mp with the white flash is probably not a bad deal at that price.
