2010 WA Elk
« on: November 25, 2010, 04:45:57 PM »
This is my first year hunting in Washington and my first elk. I took this bull on 9 November and spent my 7th Corps Birthday taking it off the mountain. I spent Veteran's day (and a couple days after) cutting the meat down. I worked my ass off and it paid. I met some of the most wonderful and helpful people this hunting season. I'll never forget this, and I'm totally hooked!!! Already planning for next year...

Nice bull! very pretty rack! Love the pictures of meat in the fridge.  The butchering can be really fun with an elk...sometimes I take those big roasts and give em a smack! Great first post.

Hope there are many more to come!

Congrats nice bull can't beat that meat in the freezer.
It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need one and not have it.                                                                             Local 66 sheetmetal workers

Its an old Savage 110c. .06 I took the walnut stock off and put on a synthetic ramline stock (totally awesome I highly recommend them) and a simple padded sling. Weaver style mounts with some nice steel rings and a Bushnell banner scope on it (again, awesome). The barrel looks a little short cause it is. I inherited this gun from my father and I think he had some weird work done on it, cause the barrel only measures 19.5". My rifle's been a challenge for me over the years but through it, I've learned (and still have a lot to learn) about the basics of getting absolute accuracy out of my hunting rifle. I shot this bull at 3-350 freehand and he was running. I missed the first shot cause I tried to lead him but then remembered to get back on fur.

I don't blame ya 400, it's had many modifications. I couldn't tell what it would be if I was looking at it for the first time either. It's a sweet rifle. Kicks like a mule, burps real loud, throws flame, punches tight groups, and I'm proud of her. It's taken a LOT of deer, antelope, and as of this year, FINALLY elk.
