just got back from my oregon muzz hunt. Had a great time but with near zero degrees and various weather the old #11 cap failed many times. I take great care in my gun but it didnt matter. First day blew a chance at a 6x6. Next day got back on him but on the open hillside with a hot doe. He was bedded and after crawling and rolling over 100yds and waiting 1.5 hrs for him to get up the gun went CLICK. He was gone. Actually ran out to 175 but missed my shot then. Not feeling too confident.
Next couple days really bad weather, actually Pendleton set a new -17 degree record with wind. The diesel wouldnt even start. Day four wasnt much better but went out in the afternoon and got lucky to get on a hot doe who was being pursued by several bucks. The grunt call worked unreal. My buck chased her into a thicket and even though we got busted by small bucks and does on the stalk the grunt call kept everyone of them close wondering who or what we were. Eventually my buck came out 80 yds with his nose up the doe's bung. Definate cougar problem in Eastern Oregon, the federal trapper was killing them left and right with this snow. We spent time looking for tracks so we could call him.
