Double Band (UPDATE)
« on: November 30, 2010, 05:27:09 PM »
So here it goes. I was jump shooting on my buddies farm when a small group flew over us. I had the bead right on the drake and boom.... 1/10 of a second too late and my buddy folds it. I shoot one as well and we are happy. I walk up to pick up the birds and by habit I check them both for bands. And guess who's has the band on it..... His. I yell to him that his was banded and I take a second look and there is another $100 reward band on the other leg. SOB. I have shot tons of birds but never a banded one. But I am happy for my buddy... Not really but it sounded good  :chuckle:

looks like the reward band has lost all its color, do you know when it was banded yet? may have been flying around with it for a while.

Your a good buddy.  I think my friend would have handed me the one with no bands and claimed it himself.   :dunno:

They said it would tell him on the certificate they were sending him in a couple weeks. I'll keep you posted.

I would have loved to be the one to shoot that drake but it wouldn't have felt right if I would have lied.  :)

Ok so the drake mallard was from Peace River, Alberta and it was banded in 2004. Peace river is over 1000 miles from Eburg. I thought that was pretty cool.

Very cool Lazy Lab, two years ago I got a double banded bird from the same place banded the same year as yours, but mine was only a fifty dollar reward. Amazing how far ducks fly I've got four banded mallards, two from just north in B.C., and the other two came from Alberta. Sure can't beat getting paid to hunt.
