No others....the Gould's give you the Royal Slam, and the Oscellated in addition to the other four gives you the World.  The most difficult slam will be the Washington Slam, as you can pretty well pay your way into the Osceloa, Goulds, and Oscellated.

Your toughest bird in the Washington Slam will be the Eastern, unless you have some experience and know what you're doing.

However it's turkey hunting and they can all be difficult. :chuckle:

Sorry....got ahead of myself above.....should have read.........

Somehow I typed in Grand and it went south from there. :chuckle:

Corrected it above..........

Wacent,

So need to clarify!

Oceola, Eastern, Rio and Merriams is called a  __GRAND____  Slam.

The above 4 birds plus a Gould's is called a __ROYAL_______  Slam.

All five birds plus an Ocellated is called a  ___WORLD______  Slam.

Thanks,

Phantom

WASHINGTON SLAM........An Eastern, Merriam's and Rio from Washington State with subspecies defined by geographic area...western Washington, various counties etc.  Single season Washington Slam....all three taken during one spring season.  Multi-season Washington Slam...all three collectively taken during different seasons and/or years.

Thanks Wacent,

Still working on my first Grand Slam.  Have an Eastern from Kentucky and Merriam's from Washington and a Hybrid (Eastern/Rio) from Kansas!

Here it is only December and we are already starting to get a glimmer of the itch for chasing the the King of the Spring Woods once again!

ok thanks for the input! I have some really good leads on shooting eastern's in WA up in the Islands, as for the merriam and the rio I have got that nailed down. Thanks again!

Although they may be defined as such...those Island birds are not the real deal.  Wild Easterns were never released there.  Those birds are a mixture of a few wild Merriams from Klickitat released 40 years ago that crossed with Eastern game farm stock that was also released from Dept of Game pheasant farms at the same time.  They raised some as kind of a hobby, release thing....not wild in any sense.

In fact they were and still are to some degree considered a nuisance problem.  They are more pet like than wild.   Go after the real deal.  That's what makes the Washington Slam what it is...tuff.  Anyone who knows turkeys will discount an Island bird.....and won't even consider it a Washington slam in their mind.

Just food for thought.

 :dunno:

So just to clarify what I believe you've said and leave no doubt :

Royal Slam - Eastern, Rio, Merriam, Florida (or Osceola), & Goulds subspecies

World Slam - add the Oscellated from Central American jungle to above

Hey Washington Turkey Chasers,  Don't forget to put the following Slams on your wishlist:

Mexican Slam - Rio Grande, Goulds and Ocellated Toms harvested in Mexico (Enter at your own risk)!

Canadian Slam - Eastern and Merriams's Gobblers harvested in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta or British Columbia.
