« on: December 04, 2010, 04:39:20 PM »
So i got my elk in 454 i was thinking it was a Roosevelt elk but my Father inlaw said it would be a rocky mountain not a Roosevelt. What do you all think.

Technically, I think its an RM...but...there are true rosies in there too.... (If I remember my units right, its only been 13 yrs now)... I have friends that have killed TYPICAL rosies in that unit...

Anyhow...who cares! You killed an elk... how big?

I think I5 is the boundary for the state records.  The state considers your bull a Cascade Roosevelt; Boone and Crockett a Roosevelt.  I would really like to hunt for elk closer to home and will try to scout out a place in the next year.  Hope I do as well as you, but any elk will be nice.

I think Boone & Crockett would consider that a Rocky Mountain elk. The boundary is I-5.

Gotta be west of I-5 for a B&C Rosie... I-5 to cascade crest is a Cascade Rosie in the Washington book... Your bull does not have any features that would make me think it had to be a Rosie... basically, I've got to see some crowning. Now, there are mature Rosies in in the Olympics or anywhere else that DONT have crowning... but if they aren't crowned..you are not going to be able to tell if its Rosie or Rocky...   If that bull was a few years older he may have crowned out??/ I dont know...

Years ago the Snoqualmie herd had RM elk transplanted into it. So its atleast a cross in my opinion.

I think I read somewhere that the only 100% pure Roosevelt elk are on the Olympic Peninsula.
