Good timing!`
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:46:23 AM »
I was hunting deer on 10/27 (rifle tag with my bow).  I was hiking out in the dark and decided to walk past one of my cameras.  The flash went off as I approached and I just continued down to my truck.  A few days later after 10/31 I hiked back in there to check the camera.  Check where the bear is looking, then look at the time on both photos.   :chuckle:  Just think how many times stuff like this happens and you never know.  I had four photos of that bear standing there looking around before he heard me coming and moved off.

do you remember hearing anything as you were coming up on it or did he just sneak away quietly?

Never heard a thing but what's odd is I had this strange feeling about bears and though I've never done this before, I started taking flash photos with my camera held up.  I didn't want to make a lot of noise because there was a good buck I was hunting in the area.  I figured the flash would at least provide a heads up that I was coming.

Now back in September I walked right into a bear at about 20 yards in the dark.  All was dead silent until he woofed.  I hit the halogen headlamp instantly to see the ferns moving as he barreled off busting limbs, etc.  Nearly filled the shorts on that deal  :chuckle:

I know!  I was thinking the same thing after I pulled the card. Bears reek and given he was laying down there before he stood (third photo) you'd think I would have smelled him.  I have photos of him sleeping to the left of the frame under a fern, paw over his snout and sacked out.  There was no food source as this was a deer "rut travel" camera location. By the way, if you look at my bobcat post and check the time, you'll see that all three of "us" came by this camera within about an hour.  Ironically, the deer I'd been hoping to capture here never showed.
