shotgun to rifle
« on: April 14, 2008, 04:50:37 PM »
has anyone seen or heard of plans to convert side by side shotguns into rifles?  a few years back i seen a manual on how to do it. im no machine shop worker, so i didnt buy it. now i wish i kinda did. i would love to have a side by side 30-30, or 45-70.

anyone ever hear of this procedure?

if i were to have a side by side rifle, it would have to be a rimmed cartridge.

to me, that would be just the coolest westside deer gun. short and responsive and it would just fly to your shoulder like a good little bird gun. BANG!BANG! 30-30 would be cool, and its rimmed so extraction would be perfect.

i have a little 12 bore sidebyside that shoots win. two and three quarter one ounce slugs to 2-3 inch groups at 50 yards with both barrels shot respectivly. it makes a fine close range gun for bear.  i myself prefer double triggers.

i think converting a 410 to 45 long colt would be cool. dont really know the purpose of it other then being fun. and maybe being a little brush gun...

idk what other calibers you could do that with. plus most shotgun barrel would be to thin of a wall for the powerful rifle calibers...?

yes, the barrels are too thin, but this book had some way of addressing the problem. who knows how he does it? but it would be neat.

I'd seen rifled inserts that reduce bore to smaller shotgun sizes, but not rifle sizes. I imagine you could do the same, but it'd be tricky with the firing pin protrusion, and getting the cartriges centered properly.

Pressures are way different between rifles and shotguns, but I imagine anything can be done?
