I think they are trapping only. but cant say thats ever stopped anyone either

Is that because they are in water which make a dangerous shooting situation?

Most bars are no carry areas, so ya cant shoot them there. If yer out in the parking lot I think handguns are legal but not pistols or revolvers. I think there are protected areas where all you can do is admire the beavers but sometimes a large tip is helpful. I have also seen transitional Beavers  :dunno:that migrate from the admire only zone to the full contact areas.

Because beavers’ legal status, trapping restrictions, and other information change, contact your local wildlife office for updates.

The beaver is classified as a furbearer (WAC 232-12-007). A trapping license and open season are required to trap or shoot a beaver.

The owner, the owner’s immediate family, an employee, or a tenant of property may shoot or trap a beaver on that property if a threat to crops exists (RCW 77.36.030). In such cases, no special trapping permit is necessary for the use of live traps. However, a special trapping permit is required for the use of all traps other than live traps (RCW 77.15.192, 77.15.194; WAC 232-12-142). There are no exceptions for emergencies and no provisions for verbal approval. All special trapping permit applications must be in writing on a form available from the Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

These are all considered fur bearers and can only be trapped.  (dont shoot these unless in your trap)

beaver    
marten    
short-tailed weasel or ermine
long-tailed weasel
mink
badger
river otter

Bobcats, fox and raccoons are classified as both game animals and fur bearers so can be hunted and trapped.  

Coyotes, skunks, mountain beavers, moles, shrews, opossums and a few others are unclassified wildlife and can be hunted and trapped all year long with no limit but licenses are still required.

I was going to add that also.  I think the same is for weasels and the others in the act of depredation or property damage.  As a general rule though you cant just shoot them.
