Has anyone been hunting the Pend Orielle lately? Just wondering what the water level is around and how the diver hunting has been?

It was pretty frozen up a few weeks ago, but last weekend was a lot better after that melt we had. Birds are still flying some, I was planning on another hunt or two.

the sloughs are locked up tight, but the main channel is open and the divers are there.

Good to hear. I always love showing up and having it froze. How about the geese? Did they move out with the snow?

no there are plenty of geese. they have been called at quite a bit, so quieter is probably better. We found lots of them sitting on the ice at thw slough openings.

We hunt it all the time, even frozen..
This was from years ago, my brother ran out of gas in his boat..
Luckily he was not on a solo run, and we pulled him back to launch.
BTW,, river was slushy in the AM, then it just got cold.
If the ice was any thicker we would not have been able to break it.
This was from a few weeks ago, 11/26/2010
Headed south tomorrow for strickly greenheads. It was a toss up between Usk, or south.. But I'd rather eat ducks than geese.

Longest 1/2 mile boat ride of my life.
I think it was about 10..
We had the whole river to ourselves.

And I thought I was the only one crazy enough to hunt it when its frozen. BTW it is really hard on wood boat oars when you use them as ice breakers.

I usually hunt north from the boat launch in cusick. Does anyone know where the rez ends heading south, and how if there are many good places to set up south of the bridge?

I think the rez stops just south of the bridge. How far North does the rez go. I thought it went almost to or to tacoma creek.
There are spots all along the river south of the bridge. I was thinking of giving Indian island a try on Sunday. I have had some luck hunting around dead cow slough. It the first island south of the bridge.

the rez stops just south of the bridge...at the skookum creek confluence. It goes north quite a ways. The tribal hatchery (big green buildling) is at the very north end. Campbell slough is the north boundary at the river.

So if you are just south of the bridge, there is a large island/shallow on the east side of the river..... that's legal to hunt?
Thanks
