Well said, Lokidog. Unfortunately it seems that these days greed is taking over for some.
I disagree. I'm in the field all the time and I have seen deer being chased by dogs. It sucks that the owners don't break their dogs to deer, but that's life...and lots of things suck in life that we have to deal with. My rationale to the whole wildlife harassment by dogs argument has to do with my hunting dogs (bird dogs and hounds) that chase wildlife and harass them for a job. What's to stop some d-bag from shooting my hounds off a tree with a lion or a coon in it? I like my dogs, I try to keep them straight, but even with proper training and shock collars ect. dogs will sometimes trash on game. If someone shot my dog (no matter what it was chasing (excluding livestock)) they would have a fight on their hands right then and there.

but shooting them is not the right thing to do.

Our good hounds are worth $5000+ and hard to replace even at that price. If someone destroys something of yours that is worth that much, wouldn't you want to do something about it. People have a tendancy to see a dog in the woods and assume it's chasing deer, what if it's actually on a cougar track or chasing coons? WAcoyotehunter is also correct that it is illegal to shoot dogs unless they are destroying your property. There is also a law on the books making it illegal to shoot dogs. Another point some of you are missing is that some shed hunters have dogs trained to find horns, it works great. Now imagine if you shoot that guys dog....
How many of you are on the wetside?? Their must be a big problem with dogs chasing around the blacktails???
if a dog is chasing deer, elk or moose u can kill it!
I'd like to give a serious warning to all who speak of shooting dogs chasing deer. I have had this problem while hunting my own land. I shot a dog chasing deer on my very own property in 2006. The dog and owner were trespassing. I still got in serious trouble. I was charged with 1st degree animal cruelty, a felony charge in superior court. I got convicted of 2nd degree animal cruelty. At least that was a mistameaner. Also cost me about $7,000 for lawyer and fines. Plus I lost hunting rights for two years. It was bulls**t, but apperantly against the law. I'm finally off probation and got my right to hunt restored, but trust me you dont want to find yourself in my situation. Call animal control authorities is all I could recommend. On a lighter note I have already picked up 12 fresh whitetail sheds this season!
whats funny is people get all riled up over shed hunters, what about all the other user groups that play in the outdoors? they have no clue. If your going to stop shed hunters, better tell people they cant sno shoe, hike, cross country ski, snomobile etc
