What gun?
« on: January 03, 2011, 09:04:56 PM »
What gun do you bird hunt with or gun you big game hunt with?
Just thought it would be cool to see.
I use a Winchester SX3 for bird hunting and a .243 or .300 for big game.

Browning A Bolt 270 Winchester is my main hunting rifle. Also have a Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 that I grab out of the safe occasionally. For muzzleloader seasons I'm currently using a Lyman Deerstalker. For birds my favorite is my Remington 1100 20 gauge which I've had for 30 years. When a 12 gauge is needed I have a Remington 870 pump and a Beretta 686 over/under.

For years used a BSA in 30.06 that my dad gave me when I was 14.  Bought a 300 Savage & used it one year, then bought a Ruger in .243 & used it one year, Then a Win. Mo. 70 in .270 & used it for about 15 or 20 years.  Last year I went back to the .243, but next year I'm planning to go retro with an early 1900's rifle & handloads.  Either a Rem Mo. 8 or 14 both of which are .30 Rem or my Big 5 $89 specials, the 91/30 or the carbine in 7.62x54.

Remington 700 in .270 for deer
Remington 870 for birds and ducks
Bow for elk

...but... I just bought a Remington 700 in 7mm mag with a fluted barrel and topped it with a VXIII Leupy scope with the CDS Dial.... so depending on how comfortable I get with it over the next 9 months that may take over as my primary weapon for big game...

For deer/elk and any other big game, if I was just gonna use one rifle out of the safe it would be my Ruger 77 all weather with the boat paddle stock with handloaded 180gr in 300 winny.  That gun has just killed too damn many critters for me to give up if I had to go with just "one".

For birds I use the Benelli SBE in 12ga.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
