lense choice

Hey guys I just picked up a nikon D2X body, a friend needed cash, so I guess I'm going to try this. I have no lense, no camera experience, what do you think.

Ya thats what he told me. I guess 1500 was a good deal, he said it has 8200 shutters, and the camera is rated for 200k? Does anyone have any good lense ideas. Don't really want to spend 2-3 grand, would like to get something close to the camera cost.

I've got the 2 Nikor (?) lens that came with my D60. Not expensive but a match with the camera kit. I'm not a pro by anymeans, but they take very good pictures of whatever I've taken pictures of.
Google what type of lens you what because you can save a ton of $$$.

To answer that question one would really need to know what you want to take pictures of. 
 You could just get the kit lenses that people get rid of to start with.  Most are the 28-55mm and the 55-200mm.  The work well for starters. I've been using the stock 18-55 DX lens that came with my D5000, a 55-200 DX and a 35mm 1.8 DX with good results. All  are inexpensive and work pretty well.

I've heard good things about this lens and it's on my "to buy" list.

So, I guess the that your budget for a lens is in the $1500 range.  Nikon's 80-400 zoom is $1429 at B&H.  And that's brand new.  You could probably find a used one for about $1200.  The range of the zoom makes it very versatile.

A friend of mine in Tennessee uses the Nikon 80-400mm extensively.  Almost all of his wildlife images are taken with that lens.  Here's a link to his site.  Check it out if you would like to see images taken with that lens:

I have a 55-200 that I may be looking to part with.  Only reason is I now have a 55-300 and don't see the point of having both.
