If it is 'her' first center fire rifle, I'd stick with your first choice, the .243.  It is plenty potent enough for dear deer, and will give her a more pleasant shooting experience.  That is where it pays off, in the long run. It is a great cartridge for coyotes, for which I have a bias...  (I figure my next gun may well be a .243.)

LOL.  YA,  I'M ABOUT WHERE YOU AR SWAG.  I JUST NEED TO CONVINCE MY WIFE THAT I NEED A NEW RIFLE,  BUT SINCE SHE'S PLANNING ON ELK HUNTING WITH ME THIS YEAR I MIGHT SAY THAT "SHE" NEEDS A NEW RIFLE   :chuckle:
