Scouting Around Tri-Cities
« on: January 07, 2011, 11:33:32 AM »
It is tough to learn a new area in just 1 week but the grandson wants to start duck hunting with grandpa and when we decided to spend the holidays in Pasco I figured it was a good time to explore the area and hopefully come up with a spot or two that I can teach the grandkids about waterfowl and the wonderful time that can be spent in the field. Did not start out to well. Hiked more miles than I care to admit packing a bag of dekes only to be disappointed by deep water or no birds. Stubbornness paid off though and I finally located a few potential locations. Had an awesome time scouting a new area. Saw some beautiful country and even managed a few greens in the process. Can't wait for next season to start sharing some blinds with the boy!!!  Here are a few pics from the week...... :)

Very Cool!  Did your grandkids hunt, or just tag along?
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

The 12 year old will start hunting next season. This year was just tag along but he enjoys that as well. At least he did before the big freeze came in. I will need to get him some good waders and a good hunting coat before he comes along when the north wind gets going. His dad does not hunt but he knows that grandpa lives for hunting season and a good blustery Autumn storm. He is very excited to learn all about decoying, calling and bagging his first bird. I think I am more excited than he is!!!!!!

That's cool.  I just took my son duck hunting for the first time a few weeks ago (he's 11).  Bagged his first duck too!  Yes, good, warm waders and coat are a must.  Glad I invested in them before I took him...

Congrats on your boys first duck!!!!!!! :brew:

That is a special moment. I still remember my sons first duck and that was 20 years ago. One of the great things about hunting with your kids or even grandkids is that the memories last a lifetime!!!!!

Looks like you guys had fun! Next time don't walk all over and back before asking some of the locals  ;) You include kids (especially g-kids) and you would be amazed of the ideas and imput you will get   ;)
