call sequence question

ok.  now that i have me homemade e caller set up,  i am starting to set up call sequences on my mp3 player.  what are the basic sequences should i start with?  how long? and how much silence time should i put in betwean calls?  i don't have a remote so i need to set sequences at 20-30 min. 
should i start with destress first, then howles?  thanks for any info

If you just after yotes I'd make one with a locator howl at the start silence for say 2-3 min or after around 30 sec do a locator howl or female invite. Make sure if you do another howl it's sound different then the first. After that I would wait around 5 min then go to a distress sound for say 30sec and quite for 2 min back on the distress for 30 the quite for 2-3min then the same again after that I would have it quite for 5+min then a coyote distress. You can do distress first and howls later to. It's all in what works in your area.02

make sure you have a 1 or 2 minute silent sequence at the beginning, so you can return to your spot and get your gun and binos set up

I cant help you with coyotes but here is the sequence I made for bobcats for my e-caller.  Had pretty good luck with bobcats and a few coyotes also.

19:48 mins long

2 mins of silence at the beginning, rodent squeaks, raspy distress, then high pitch distress.  I usually let it play three time all the way through and do some hand calling after the first time through in the two minute break.

This is just a girls way...I put coyote scent on my boots as soon as I'm out of the SUV, Walk into a spot that has brush,and heavy timber/brush and long distance calling opportunity. I set out a "Decoy" ( a cluster of feathers with scent or my favorite, a fresh rabbit skin hanging from a string so it can move in the wind ) I set it out about 25 yards. then I sit quiet for 5 minutes and "listen".Are there coyotes howling, birds ,crows, ? So I want to get the attention of EVERYTHING in the 2 mile radius.I'll crack a big limb loud just once. Then I sit down and kick up some dust and rattle the brush as if there's a persuit ensuing. Then a Loud rabbit scream  for 1 minute or so followed by muffled screams ( like the rabbit escaped under some brush.) then silence for about 5 minutes. Then brush noise, muffled scream, into full loud scream into high blood curdling screaming out to whining and muffled whimpering...quiet for 5 minutes again..repeat...................>>>

I WOULD THINK THAT BURBANK AREA COULD EASILY HOLD BOBCATS,  LOTS OF DENSE COVER THERE,  I KNOW THERE'S BOBCATS UP IN THE PALOUSE FALLS AREA.

I would have a few files on your MP3 player

1 - Locating Sequence:  Use this for scouting areas.  I love a group yip howl for this.  Some folks like a siren.  Before my e-caller I would take two open reed calls and howl with them at the same time.  Go for 15-20 seconds ten have a minute of silence so you can hear some answers.  Repeat once if needed.

2 - Coyote Vocals Only: Single Lone Howl pup or female - 5 minutes of silence - Female invitation howl - 3 minutes of silence, female challenge howl - 2 min of silence, pup distress for 2-3 minutes with 1 minute of silence, repeat 5 times.  Total sequence close to 45 minutes or around that.  Add some lip squeeks to extend it to 45 minute mark to account for slower approach of coyotes.

3 - High pitch distress - various bird distress, rodent distress, 2 minutes of distress and 30-60 seconds of silence.  Do this for an hour.  Use to target bobcats or coyotes

4 - Deep distress - Raspy jack rabbits, fawn, etc.  Same as above -high volume and emotional.

5 - Smorgashborg (sp?)  Combine a little of everything.

Maybe I should clarify a little bit. There are areas in and around the tri-cities that can and sometimes do have bobcats. Burbank, the delta, hover, and ringold can all have cats in them. I just don't think that the population around here is enough to specifically target. I would stick to coyote hunting and if you happen across fresh cat sign then set up on them. Cat stands are usually so much longer than coyote stands that you will end up burning a lot of time up on a species that is pretty scarce around town here. If you are willing to travel as far as Polouse Falls, then there are a ton of areas that hold cats, but as far as around town, I would not waste a whole lot of energy on them.
