SW coyote callers
« on: January 15, 2011, 09:46:56 AM »
hey guys I was wandering if anyone in the sw that have been calling dogs with a lot of luck this year.  I don't know if the areas I usually call are called out or if it is just really bad calling on my part.  I am not a great caller but by now I usually have called in a dozen dogs or so.  Still calling in crows and hawks but no coyotes(that I see)I guess I am just baffled. any ideas

The problem your having is most likely- the coyotes are coming in downwind of you and get your sent before you ever have a chance at seeing them.
This closet is taken- go find your own

Don't feel bad hucklebeary most of the guys around here aren't doing all that good either. I'm good at calling in deer, crows, porcupines and hawks but no dogs as of late. I wash my hunting clothes, camo head to toe,use spray, watch the wind and movement and sit in a stand.
On the other hand during deer/elk season the hunters driving up and down logging roads and guys stompin' through the woods slaughtered the dogs. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why.

Glad I am not the only one Yottie.  Did a little research online and found a new calling sequence that I am going to try this afternoon.  Hopefully the Seahawks win and the rain stops but I am probably wishful thinking.

I suspect you are having two problems. If you have had luck calling them in before. It sounds like you know how to approach your area.

This time of year the coyotes are pairing up. And are alot harder to get to come to the call. Second the rain is not great for calling coyotes as we all know.

I still call this time of year. But with an expectation of lower success. Your best bet in our area. Will be to find some private farm land. That has not been called very much if at all.

I'll send you a P.M.  Maybe I can help you find some productive areas.
