Model 70 Alaskan
«
on:
May 02, 2008, 09:12:13 AM »
Does anyone know how to tell if a pre-64 mod. 70 is a standard grade or the Alaskan? (ie) is the Alaskan marked as such?
I have tried some on-line sources and have not found anything definite.
Thanks

My sources tell me that the Alaskan did not have any particular feature except a 25" barrel and it came in .338 or .375 H&H mag.

The Westerner was available in either the 264 or 300 Win. Mag. with a 26" barrel.
The Afican was available only in the 458 Win Mag with a 25" barrel.

Thanks guys. It is a .338 Mag. The standard model can have a 24, 25, or 26" barrel. This one measures from the muzzle to the bolt face down the bore...24.75".

My sources say it is an Alaskan in that case.
