how do I clean the glue off arrows?
« on: January 26, 2011, 03:17:36 PM »
I'm replacing the vanes on my carbon arrows and need to clean off the old glue.  What is the best method to use?  I can scrape most of it off with a razor, but that leaves a very rough, uneven surface.

Potato peelers work really good to stip fletchings/glue. Acetone works good also.

Cheap store brand finger nail polish.  Has acetone in it.  About $1.  I raid my wife and daughters supply.

If you are doing this on carbon arrows and scrape them with a razor you need to be VERY CAREFULL that you don't start getting in to the carbon fibors.  If you are then you are digging in to much.  If you are working on alum. arrows you still need to be carefull not to dig in to the alum but they are easier to do.  When you re-fletch your arrows, if that's what your doing, then you may want to buy some wraps to put on before you add your new fleches.

I have used blades for years and never had an issue. I used my havolyn knife last batch and i think I found the best tool.
