MORNIGN HUNT.........BUST!!!
« on: January 29, 2011, 03:35:52 PM »
Me and my buddy went out this morning to do some calling. Didnt have any luck with the coyotes. got in some good are or what seemed like good are and made some set ups but nothing showed except four does. Saw 40 head of elk on the way up too so we were seeing animals just not the right ones. I wish I knew more about how to hunt these guys. I would like any advice you have on hunting them around here. thank you

I don't know if your from the east side of Wa.  But its been very slow here do to the warm weather.  I've had my best luck lately with the spot and stock method.  Only calling after I've got close enough to get the shot anyway.

Don't feel bad--I went out yesterday and did 3 setups.  First one, started calling, and looked up on the hill, and a herd of bighorns was looking at me.  Seems I can call in deer, Bighorn Sheep, but can't call in those *censored* coyotes for all I'm worth!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

When your deer hunting only coyotes come to the call and ruin your deer stand.

Keep at it.  Spend as much time as you can at it.  You'll learn your territory, what winds you need for certian stands , how to get to them without disturbing everything, after you finish a stand walk the area and see if there might be a better place to call if the wind is different or there is a better vantage point.  Try and find stands that you can call with out trying to pull coyotes out of the cover and still see them.  Remember your hunting something that has many times better vision, hearing, smell and knows the country better than you know your yard.  The coyotes are there you just have to find the places that he is comfortable coming to the call or where hunger or curiosity overcomes caution.  This time of the year there arn't any dumb coyotes left.  As you progress as a caller you them get to the point that even on strange territory you'll see those spots that just say "Call Here".

After the first shot the rest are just noise.
