Quick 20g Slug Ammo Review
« on: January 31, 2011, 08:49:45 AM »
Shot some slugs from my H&R Ultra Slug Hunter this weekend. I have mounted a Leupold 2x7 Rifleman Shotgun scope and am shooting 50 (ish) yards on 2 power.

I first used the 250gr Horanday SST tipped slugs. Shot fine with a very mild push recoil. They grouped well, about inch, inch and half, and blew huge chunks of plywood from the target stand. Next was the Winchester 260gr Dual Bond slugs. The grouped the best at 3 shots in an inch leaving a rather large hole where the plywood used to be. The recoil was a bit sharper but still very managable.

I was very happy with both and will probably stick with the Dual Bond because the hull is black and it looks cool.

I've got family in Illinois and plan on participating in a 3 day shotgun season this Thanksgiving holidy. I bought the H&R figuring it was cheap, accurate, and a good gun for my boy to use in the Midwest when he gets a little older (than 4 1/2). No rifle shooting in IL, only muzzy, pistol, or shotgun.

Good deal, if I was going to be running slugs. The dual bonded by winchester, and the xp3 would be my 2 choices.
