That's pretty cool.  You should measure it for the books.  It doesn't take a very big bird to be on top if it has that many beards.

Nice bird.....usually you see occasional 2 bearded birds...but 5.....that's special.  You should measure each one as well as the other details and submit it to the Wa. Chapter NWTF records.

You can download the form.....also look under non-typical Merriams.  This one should be in the top 4 or 5.

Thanks, I'll talk to my bro and have him do that. He froze the bird whole and was thinking about mounting it

That's cool!

I once shot a bird w/ 3 beards... and they were all about 1" long.  They were all discolored at the end and looked as if they were cut off.  Someone told me they sometimes they get some kind of infection or sumthin that causes their beard to do that.  No clue if that's true.... but wouldn't ya know it be the bloody gobbler I shoot.

When I shot the thing, the angle was such that I couldn't see the beards.  He was only about 15 yards away strutting like a maniac.... I could even see his spurs.  I was shocked whne I got up to him and saw these 3 lil stubs.

That is a rare trophy.  I doubt he will ever top that in his lifetime, so if he has the funds I would get it mounted.  If not, he will probably regret it later.  I have a couple double beards under my belt, but nothing over that.  I have seen a handful with three beards, but never have seen four or more.  Great job.

Awesome bird!!!

Intruder, if the beard was a red color at the tip and kinda burned looking it was probably due to it being froze off from what I hear.

Very cool, I think that was the pimp daddy of the flock.

Probably had a strut that sounded like a Barry White tune :chuckle:
