lookin at a new set up
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:25:05 PM »
Thinking bout getting new arrows n broadheads, so i already know that I want the slicktrick 100gr broadhead based on reviews. But now is the question of the shaft of carbon express maxima 8.0gpi or gold tip pro 8.2gpi. Currently shootin easton st excel 8.6gpi n muzzy 75gr 3 blade but not likeing the results. What I'm looking for is tighter groups and awsome flight pattern. What do u guys think?

The setup you have shouldn't fly bad - pretty light, though.  Try a 100gr head on those arrows to alter the FOC a bit - are you using wraps, by the way?

What is your draw length and weight and what spine are those arrows?  Did you spin test the broadheads to make sure that they were straight?

I have good luck with the Axis nFused arrows with a 100gr broadhead (I used G5 Strikers but most of the better brands of broadheads should work fine), although I started with the ST Epics with Thunderheads (the Thunderheads were a little harder to tune - just took a bit more fiddling around but they worked fine.)

If you just want new arrows and broadheads go for it, but I might check my setup before I gave up on it - if it is the incorrect spine weight or screwed up FOC due to the light broadheads make sure that you don't make the same mistake with your new arrows, whichever ones you choose.

Depending on your draw weight and arrow length, you might be close to be under weight on your hunting arrows

Nope, not using wraps. My draw length is 27 3/4 was 28 but shortened it up due to my streatch n my release. My current arrow length is at 28", 8.6gpi and I can't remember the spine, they are the 400s and right now I'm barely over the legal arrow weight lol. But I just don't get how u exactly check the broadheads to see if they are flying right? I read up on it but just don't get it.
