Elk...Marine Mammals?
«

I"m not sure if this picture has been posted on this forum already (I looked, but could not find it). This is probably one of my favorite settings for an elk photo. This picture was taken a couple years ago on the beaches to the north of Grays Harbor. A bachelor heard shows up every summer on our reservation beaches...next year I'll be ready with my camera and get some quality pics.
I imagine the conversation went something like this...."Dude, washington sucks." "Yeah, I hear the Asian cultures hold velvet antlers in high regard...lets go check it out!" "How far did you say China was?"

They are attracted to the salt.
When I was in Oregon the Sand Dunes were a great place to hunt.

I've also seen deer come down to the shore to eat small fish that wash up.

Maybe they are just being tired of being hunted for 6 months and they are coming out to surrender

Heck.. A whole herd comes down to the beach during season on northern Hood Canal quite often. And yes, the natives do know.
Great photo Coastal Native. Not something you see every day.
