Elk...Marine Mammals?
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:40:44 PM »
I"m not sure if this picture has been posted on this forum already (I looked, but could not find it).  This is probably one of my favorite settings for an elk photo.  This picture was taken a couple years ago on the beaches to the north of Grays Harbor.  A bachelor heard shows up every summer on our reservation beaches...next year I'll be ready with my camera and get some quality pics.

I imagine the conversation went something like this...."Dude, washington sucks."  "Yeah, I hear the Asian cultures hold velvet antlers in high regard...lets go check it out!"  "How far did you say China was?"
"Do it in the woods"

They are attracted to the salt.

When I was in Oregon the Sand Dunes were a great place to hunt.

I think they like the salt in the seaweed.

I've also seen deer come down to the shore to eat small fish that wash up.

Maybe they are just being tired of being hunted for 6 months and they are coming out to surrender   :chuckle:
