Red Rock Lake
« on: May 12, 2008, 06:34:20 PM »
Has anyone fished this lake, it is south of Royal City?  I have wanted to since I was in high school, and now that I have a boat I was going to give it a try.  I found a WDFW study done in 2005 that says it has Perch, Bass, Crappie, Carp, and White Fish.  Tiger Muskie were planted in 1996, but the 2005 survey did not find any, although they said that due to low spring water level they did not have access to the whole lake.  Just curious if I was going to be wasting my time or not.

i fished red rock a few years ago and caught a few bass, dont know if there are any tiger muskies left, all in all if you are gonna drive that far you just as well go to potholes, soda, long, or canal lakes they are all along the canal that runs from potholes to scooteney reservoir and all hold good numbers of bass, walleye, and trout. but if youre after a tiger muskie red rock may be the place, might also try evergreen up on the quincy wildlife area i here they have a few tiger muskies

I should have been more clear, I am not specifically targeting muskies.  I am just always looking for new place a new place to drop a line.  Thanks for the help.  By the way where did you catch your fish.  About 8 or 9 years ago when I found the lake I caught 4 or 5 good sized smallmouth in the little pond that is on the west side of the railroad tracks.

we used to fish it all the time for perch and crappie back in the 70's and 80's and did pretty good, but since they put the muskies in there, I don't know if there is any left,  people still fish for bass and muskies in there,  i caught a couple muskies there but they were a few inches short, i think they were 32" and they had to be 34 or 36 "  it was closed to fishing and boating a few years ago some guy drowned there while he was swimming,  so the water district closed it, they own the water.

the largemouth that i caught were kinda spread all over the lake,it was the kind of evening where if the fish densities were high i shouldve been able to catch 30-40 fish instead i think i caught 7, like i said its been a few years and i never bothered to go back, to many other opportunities there in the basin, another spot you might go try where i have had success is goose lake, i personally like lower for good largemouth fishing
