Coyote stand
« on: March 09, 2011, 06:16:53 AM »
I understand that you need to select a handful of stands to hunt throughout a day to give yourself the best odds, but how long should you sit in each stand before you know there isnt anything coming in? Also, what type of calls or you all using? I was looking at a foxpro game call...ideas?

The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

I'm no expert, first year predator calling, from seminars and my experience i would say it all depends on the stand. no wind changes good cover and lots of sign and water food sources then stay for 45 min. stands on the way to a particular area maybe 20 min. if the wind changed not in your favor and poor cover maybe 10 15 min

For the area I hunt, 85% of the dogs come in before the 10 min mark, 10% come in between 10 and 20 min and the remaining 5% after 20 minutes. I have worked some in that took up to a hour but I knew they were there. My stands usually are 15 to 20 min. If you have a lot of sets to make in a day you will want to play the averages, if only a few sets then stay as long as you want. This may not hold true for westside hunting.
