Doug and Alice run Cooke Canyon hunt club in E-berg. They sell birds and allow hunts on private leased land. Great people, great dog work, and great fun. I believe their season runs Aug 1 thru March 31. They do no allow hunting in "most" areas during the native birds nesting/hatching/rearing time.

I'm not 100% positive on this but I believe that you can shoot released birds throughout the year without a license. Anyone know more on this?
Sundance do not quote me on this but on page 19 of the upland/waterfowl regs there is a statement about dog training seasons from Aug 1 to March 31 and is only allowed on certain portions of designated areas (WDFW lands). It says a small game license is required for any training on wild birds in eastern WA and a western WA pheasant license in required in western WA.
I know as a licensed game farm (upland bird raiser) I have to give proof of purchase (state game farm receipt) to anyone who buys gamebirds from me. If any of the birds have the potential to be released into the wild (dog training with any live bird) my birds are also required to be banded for identification and tested by the state vet and I have to give that certification to the buyer as well. I have done this for 10 years and only one time was I called by a game dept. enforcement officer to ensure I had actually sold the birds to the guy training. I am guessing if you were using released birds on private property, no one would say anything, but if one of your birds got away and they were not tested you could have some explaining to do. I understand this stuff goes on all the time and that like most laws no one really looks into it. I have had many discussions with Mick Cope (upland gamebird manager for WDFW) over the years to try to keep myself and the guys that buy from me out of trouble and so far so good.
