Would the 121 huckleberry unit be a good place to go for early season archery. Because in october I'm goin to Idaho for rifle deer.

Have hunted it since 88 and must say quality isn't what it used to be. Still some good bucks though just not as many as before. Will need to do some scouting. :twocents:

If you can get on some private, it could be a good hunt.

its tough country to hunt if you don't have private property.. and if you do have private property permission make sure you know the boundaries.. There's some landowners over there that just shoot first and figure it out later  :twocents:

I wouldn't say quality is down, Numbers are for sure though, Early in the year would be the best bet for a first chance shot at a big buck if your not gonna be around durning the late season. Cant go wrong with Idaho!!!

I have a cabin and property in 121.  Whitetail numbers are not what they were just 5 years ago, but I am seeing more mule deer.  As another poster noted, unless you have private property connections it can be a very frusterating unit to hunt.  Deer there are taught to read "private - keep out" while still fawns.  I do know that many of the landowners in the area are open to archery hunters (I know of one with an elk problem who is begging for late season archery hunters to take some elk off his hay pile).  I would hightly recomend a scouting trip to get permisson before I went over and had the deer taunting me from behind the keep out signs.

There's lots of timber company ground up high in the unit, some good quality deer still there, but numbers are down...  :twocents:
