any of you like carp fishing? personally i love it, fighting carp is fun. I took my girlfriend with me today and caught a few. She caught the biggest fish she's ever caught. only got one piture though but its of hers and she was so happy.

i like going to Banks lake for carp fishing. i wont keep them though as the only part that tastes good is the ribs, nice white meat. but it has to be smoked for me to like it lol

they sure are a blast to fight on light gear though, not big on killing critters i wont eat so i wont bow fish them either.

use to talk to a trapper in the uk,he loved to catch carp and tench,,,talked about them like we do salmon and steelhead

Yes, I don't eat them either. And its nice when its 4lb test and a small trout pole

Heck yes!!!! I love fishing for the big lugs!

We use bread dough and corn.

Here are some pics of some of the carp we caught last summer. (Three are common carp. The one my littlest boy caught is a mirror carp)

Well having spent 6 years in the UK where carp are looked at and put on the same level as guys here do wild steelhead, yes I love carp fishing. They are great fish for kids, lots of action and they learn how to fight fish on light tackle. Great learning tool for when they start taking on game fish. I'll post a few UK carp photos tonight.

Ahhh, yes, the old Round Mouth Bass. I used to spend almost every waking moment in my youth fishing and harpooning them in the Milwaukee river in my home town in WI.

However, they can be a hoot to battle with beings with an arrow or lightweight spinning gear. I've even sold a few to a certain culture back in the day.....yeller' sided salmon......

they are a blast when you snag into the side of one on my smallmouth gear..

i always keep a pole set up with a big teble hook during our tournies and when i see a good chance to snag into one for the fight i'm all over it...

Its always fun when your fishing for crappie, and hook one of those ugly monsters! They do put up a great fight.

Before 9/11 I was fishing below Grand Coulee dam and hooked some monster that I could hardly budge. Probably a big carp as I was fishing with worms but I like to tell myself it was the state record rainbow that got away.

Nope. It was the state record "triploid".

This is know, because the state record triploid that was caught after that a few miles away had some of your 40# braid hanging out its a*s that it couldn't digest.......

In-fisherman Magazine had an article or two on sight fishing for carp. Really good read. They were calling them the bonefish of the North - they said they acted more like bonefish than bonefish did. The guy they went fishing with made his own jigs that looked like a leach or crawfish without pinchers. They would sitecast to the fish, putting the lure in their path. When the fish would be right on top of the lure, he would scoot it or pop it of the bottom - instinct would take over and FISH ON! He was even using a push pole just like Florida flats fishermen to move his boat around. I'll see if I can tack it down.

I have bow fished for them. Thats a lot of fun but I didn.t know that you could catch them with lite gear. How is it done? That one kind of fish that could use some over fishing.

I am surprised that the master of carp, with rod and reel has not said anything on this thread. The washington state record holder with a fish of 41.4lbs, caught in 1980 and still standing today. Belongs to a member that most on here know

44 lbs is a huge carp...

We should have Hunting-Washington carp shoot out some time in May. I think there are lots of folks on here that have archery setup's for shooting carp. The month of May would be a good time to go if the water warms up a bit.

It's been a long time. But we used to catch them by using dough bait made out of strawberry pop and wheaties. (mix 'em together and crunch up until desired consistency) ----I kid you not!

Nope its still the 41.4lb you can look up freshwater records for washington and see it there.

Yeah no doubt carp are good fighters but I grew up with a bow in my hands and we used to go to Moses L.K and shoot the heck out of them.. either method is alot of fun .....
