Chrono's and reloads

What has been your experience, with velocity fluctuations from one round to the next, shot through a chronograph? I get a 30 fps fluctuations, with a 5 shot string. Is this normal, or can I tighten the variances up? Whats considered acceptable?

often referred to as "standard deviation" you will notice it with all loads, 30 fps is very good. the more you use a chrono you will notice many loads can't match that

I shoot for less than 2% SD for rifle cartridges. I'm quite happy if I get 1%. For decent pistol target ammo, 4% SD is the most I'll accept.
