Monthly Walk Challenge
« on: March 24, 2011, 01:35:42 PM »
Ok all you couch potatos, I'm throwing down a challenge.  A monthly walk challenge.  At least 100 miles per month.  More if you want, but at least 100 miles.  This is above and beyond your daily walking.  Like getting up from your recliner and walking to the fridge to get a beer does not count towards your 100 miles (neither can you count the steps your wife or girlfriend takes to get you your beer!)  If your interested, sign up below and put your goal miles down.  We'll start keeping track in April.  I'll post a neat little thing you can paste into your signature block which will help you keep track of your mileage and how far you have to go to reach your goal.  My goal for April will be 140 miles.  Good luck and get off you butts!

P.S.  You might also step on the scale and jot it down somewhere and share, don't share with us, at the end of each month.

Can we start smaller?

I for one can handle 3 miles a day.  However, the wife cannot.  I've been working on getting her out for an evening walk but right now 3 miles would kill her and she wouldn't want to go again.

Thats a good idea, makes one accountable.
My problem is motivation. If I have a goal (carrot) in front of me i will be more likely to be consistent.
I am a jogger not a walker, would this still work for your purpose? If so, I may be in. Have been procrastinating about setting a goal for a 25k run by late summer and maybe a 50k this fall.
First off---Gotta get off my butt.

I would like to get back to the weight printed on my Drivers license ;)

My wife does 2-4 miles on the treadmill nearly every day. I've been procrastinating. Tough for us to do on the pavement right now. Seems like there's a ball game for one or both of the boys every day for the near future. We don't like to miss games. 100 is a good challenge for a walker. Especially on the west side. I don't know that I'm in for the 100, but I'm gonna start walkin.

Hey it doesn't matter what your goal is, the real goal is to get started, stop procrastinating.  Set a goal of 25 miles, you'll probably smash that goal and feel much better and then next month up it a bit.  Biking, jogging, walking makes no difference, lets get moving.  We can motivate each other.  No pressure, just encouragement!!!!   :hello:  I've done 8.4 the last two days.  Just getting back into the routine myself after taking toooo much of the winter off.

Heck I might as well join in. I've been slacking off lately, starting to feel sluggish and gaining weight. So for the month of April I've set these goals for myself. We'll see how this goes. I have a feeling I'm either going to love you or hate you for this Machias.  :chuckle:

75 miles
5 hrs of jump rope
1 hr per day 6 days per week P90X

Late to the thread, but I am in.  My goal is 100 miles for the month of April.  So far I have 9: 5 on Friday, 2 each on the weekend.  91 to go in 25 days.  Would like to cut the distance between my dating my wife weight (168) and the 69 lbs I've put on since (50 since my MI & stroke in 07, 237lbs).

I'm in. I'm lucky to have the burke gilman trail literally right out the back door of work. Lunchtimes are sometimes a bit.....extended.

I'll post a neat little thing you can paste into your signature block which will help you keep track of your mileage and how far you have to go to reach your goal.

I'm new to the forum and am wondering if this "neat little thing" is right in front of my eyes or just hasn't happened yet?

Btw - my goal is 80 miles a month plus other workouts.

Hey guys I apologize for not getting this up to speed.  I spent most of this week back In Washington DC at a Security Conference.  I will have everything posted by this evening.  I'm already behind for the month, I've only been able to do 5 miles so far in the past 7 days.

I am at 11 miles now, but need to kick it up a bunch in order to meet the 100 for the month.  This weekend should allow for that
