First pics from Stealth Cam Nomad IR
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:18:15 PM »
First I wanted to say thanks for all the good reading and tips i got from this forum and secon to share the first real photos from my trail cam and give some overall feedback on the model I am using. Back in January I purchased a Stealth Cam Nomad from Cabela’s on sale for $80. It took a couple weeks before we could get in to the woods to set it up but finally did.

The first soak was not too successful  after 2 weeks we had zero pics except for us coming and going so we decided to add a salt block and some scent. Well the weather hit and the camera sat for sat for 7 weeks in freezing temps and got hammered with snow ( over 4’).  This past weekend we were finally able to check for pics and change batteries.  When we showed up we were happy to see  the camera had taken 42 pictures and was still alive and kicking(the low power light was not even on). I could not believe the batteries were still working but it probably had a lot to do with the fact it had taken very few photos and they were all at day time.

What I learned so far is I really need to think about how much snow you COULD get at your camera and how that pushes the critters down the mountain. I think I was really lucky to get any pictures at all and just caught the last straggler headed to greener pastures.  I am going to leave the camera in this spot till spring because when the snow is gone I see a ton of sign.

The good-
Picture quality -The camera  really surprised me with the quality of pictures it takes during the day, time will tell if the night photos are on the same level.
Battery life- Was much better than I expected even in cold weather.
Weather proof- Really good as well…. Not one drop of moisture inside the box after 9 weeks of being in the elements.

The Bad-
Date and Time stamp- For some reason the camera will not hold an accurate time/date stamp for more than a couple weeks.
False pictures- I am not going to wine about  this because I think  the light reflecting off the snow is was caused the trigger  and the pictures are beautiful  8)

Overall-
I won’t hesitate to buy another when they go on sale again.
