WEEKLY SALMON REPORTS 2008
« on: May 22, 2008, 02:55:27 PM »
Just a thought for a good continuous thread, throw up your reports for river's, saltchuck, wherever your catching your nooks and slab coho's. Throw something up even if your not successful, let other's know what's going on out there. I haven't been out yet, but I'm picking up the boat next week after overhaul, ready to go.

Hit MA 13 yesterday for crab an salmon. Salmon was slow didn't see anything caught, though there are a ton of baitfish in the area. Crabbing was just OK, weather was  8).

I have been fishing MA 13 and doing pretty well.  Last wed. was good with 10#, 15# and 22#, the next day nothing. Have not been out since but soon.

Good day for June. Usually it doesn't pick up for a couple weeks. With all that bait around the fish have to be there sooner or later.

They are there if you are in the right place. If there is bait there will be fish. We have been catching fish all month, along with a few seals as well. The first salmon I had on for the year I lost to a seal.

My issue is keeping an eye on my pots. I usually only end up fishing an hour or two each time out because I "lose" my pots every time they are out of sight any length of time. I plan to get out during peak season and leave the pots at home.

By "lose" you mean some Ash Wipe steals them?

That is why I never get out of sight of them anymore.  Even though I can find there place with the GPS, they are not there because someone thought it would be cool to steal them :bash:

Hit the lower columbia friday and saturday.  We went 3-5.  Plunking from an island with spin-n-glows.

Exactly DeKuma, I watched yesterday while one boat kept trying to sneak in around us and check our pots for nearly two hours. He was doing nothing but drinking with his buds, not fishing, crabbing, anything. He finally left after it was apparent I wasn't going to let them out of sight. Absolutely everyone I've talked with down there has had problems, it's one I guess the law just doesn't give a *censored* about. In Maine, where we used to Vaca. when I was a kid, you could legally shoot someone for pulling your lobster pot, in the act. Don't know if that's the case now, but it sure was effective.

I lost about $200 in traps in area 10 a few years ago.  I think shooting them is a great idea! >:(

I had 4 pots stolen at Nisqually last year on opening day.  That was the last time that I took off and left the to soak alone!!!  There were several others who had all of their pots stolen that day as well.  My friend at the WDFW said that it was probably one of the Squaxin's or  Nisqually's who are notorious for that kind of crap.

I hate coming back to check our pots and be missing some.  We've had decent luck with keeping our pots at hood canal, but a couple have managed to disappear.  We leave em out all night though so we are taking a chance.
