Caught this guy dancing for his girl friend. These cranes show up every year and nest in the Conboy Wildlife Refuge. They were a long ways off and had to crop a little bit.

I guess one leg band wasn't enough. Nice pics.

Nice series! Even if you had to crop, pretty sharp. Great love dance.
Poor guy. He'll never score with those leg bands clanking all around.

Very cool shots. You've got real talent. I'm going up there scouting next weekend and will stop in there to see. Thanks!

Nice photos. You should email a photo of the guy to the bird band people.

I actually log each sighting and then give the form to the girl who is charge of banding the cranes. After nesting season, she actually goes out and runs these things down and bands them. Sandhills are protected in this state but there are a few states that you can actually hunt them in. I've been told that they do taste pretty good, all dark meat.

Good to hear about sending the info on.
The state could make a bunch of money on apps for swan or sandhill permits to shoot one a year. My parents in WI have a lot of them in their area every year.

Cool. They really do have some good color, even though a little awkward on land
