There are deer everywhere here on this side of the Mts... The hard part is seeing them. I suggest picking up Boyds book on hunting black tails.
http://www.blacktailtrophytactics.com/html/about.htm
you can find deer by glassing but you'll do better to learn about Back tail habits... If you want to "Glass" for deer i would think E wa hunting and or high buck hunts are what you need to do.  :twocents:

You can spend hours glassing a single patch of reprod here on the west side and spot a buck smack dab in the middle of it that got up from his bed after you'd glassed the same spot 10 times.

Boyds book is a great start, learn their habits and you've got them.  If you put your time in and are able to tag a monster blacktail, you know you've accomplished something!

Grab a couple green trails maps in your area. Look for a trail that leads at least 3 miles in and 2,000+ vertical gain. The more the merrier. Look for south facing slopes above treeline. Climb up in the dark and "bear hunt" (indian fraise for scouting) Aug. and Sept. Find places away from the trail. Google earth helps. :twocents:

I generally do the glassing like I mentioned above for a couple hours in the morning and a couple hours in the evening.  Mid day look for a nice patch of timber with a vine maple and sword fern understory, they love that stuff and feel safe in it. They'll let you walk right by them at 20 yards at times!

Is the book mentioned above a good read for people who hunt the westside? I am very new at hunting period and i only hunt around the kitsap and mason game units.

yep the book is really good for this type of hunting on the westside. No matter where you are here, as long as you can find a large forest (preferably one with some clearcuts) you will find deer

Boyd knows his BT. I've been on some nice ones but never had a shot at one yet. I keep passing on Does in the early season trying to whack a nice one... then come home empty handed...  :bash:
