i think i know what did this but not positive so tell me what you guys think. this was in the blues in the school fire burn area...thats where the charcoal came from. i didn't really have anything to put the size of the holes in perspective, so they are about a foot across.

Looks to me that they are the holes left behind from where a trees roots burnt.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thats probably what made the original holes, then some oppurtunistic ground squirrels or something took over.  There is animal traffic it looks like, but the original holes came from a stump burn out.

i was sure this was a badger, but i will assume you guys are right in the root burnout idea. that thought never crossed my mind, as maybe you can tell when i posted this in the varmint forum.
