Bulk Bear Bait
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:20:37 PM »
Anyone baiting bears in Idaho interested in going in on a bluk shipment of bear bait from these guys?  http://www.lucky7bearbait.com/bulk_items.htm

I am going to call them tomorrow and see what shipping 2 pallets (min oder) to north ID/eastern WA would run.  I'd like to get 2 barrels of this bait:

Gummies / Fruit Snacks/Licorice (Mixed Barrels)
55 Gallon Barrels
(4 Barrels per pallet)
$270.00 per pallet for Steel lock ring barrels

I'm figuring you could probably get 2, 55 gallon barrels for roughly $150.  PM me if you might be interested and I'll get all the details.  If you would rather get something different I'll see if we can mix and match pallets.

Thanks!!

i gotta agree with huntnnw....go to your local bakery outlet and get the outdated bread ( i buy it for my pigs and it is normally about $20 for 1/2 a pick up load).  put it in your 55 gal drum with 5 lbs of sugar, some strawberry jello packs and a few litres of strawberry soda (strawberry has a good smell to it) any fryer grease you can get is a bonus.  this set up in a 55 gal drum should only cost you about $15.  that's all you need to bring 'em in

yeah i was gonna say the same thing.  Grease from the tavern, old bread, sack of dog food, or 80 lbs sack of corn/oats/barley with molasis and you are good to go.  All for under $20.

Well you guys will love this.  Reason I was looking into is it's something different and ease of handling.  That's 4000 pounds of bait for $520, which is not tooooo bad........until you factor in the shipping.   :chuckle:   I got a hold of them today and asked him what would be the shipping out to Spokane.  It's a min 2 pallets per order.  So he says he can do it for $689.  I'm thinking ok that's a tad high but MIGHT be doable if three or four guys wanted to go in with me.  So I say so that's $689 total for bait and shipping.  Nope, the $689 was shipping only.  So $1200 total, which works out to .30 cents a pound.  Not bad, but way out of my price range.  Thanks for the suggestions, I've already called a couple of bakeries, just waiting to hear back from them.

if you buy from the company I'd inquire about the packaging....would be a pain in the arse to unwrap an entire pallet of fruit rolls or gummy bears....with the outdated bread/strawberry method the packaging would be greatly reduced...plus the fact after you get the initial one or two bears hitting the site more will follow (think of it as a couple bears pawing around in a sweet filled barrel, then walking around the woods...other bears are apt to smell their tracks and follow it to your barrel--Free advertising!).  once the barrel is getting hit on a consistant basis you can cut back on the sweets if it is too expensive and concentrate on just filling it with cheap bread-otherwise you will have a bunch of diabetic bears running the hills.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.  P.S.-if you put a trail cam on site set it up BEFORE handling the bait otherwise it will probably get ate :chuckle:  another thing i forgot to mention is if you have a quantity of fryer grease put it in gallon jugs and strap it to the back of your quad.  Think of your bait station as the "hub" and start out from different directions on your quad, strap the jug on the back and poke a small hole in the bottom-drive to the bait from different directions (this can be miles on a road) to make a bicycle "spoke" pattern to bring the bears in

Thanks Brew for the thoughts and information.  I won't be buying it from him, too spendy.  But the the gummy worms and bears are packed in 55 gal barrels without wrappers.  I've baited quite a few bears in the past.  I was just looking for a different bait that would be easy to handle.  I am having trouble finding a decent bulk, outdated bread and pastries connection.
