22-250 ar15!
« on: April 20, 2011, 10:41:11 AM »
So it looks like oly arms is coming out with a 22-250 in a ar15. :IBCOOL: they lengthened the mag well buy like a 1/4" and it sounds like you can still use standard mags which means you can slap your 223 upper on the lower and play still too :drool:

Saw it at the WWPHA meeting a few months ago pretty neat set up.  The Olympic Arms owner did a show and tell for the club.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Very interesting. I had heard that it was the shape of the 22-250 case that caused problems in th AR platform. It wouldn't feed properly. I wish they would have come out with this a long time ago. this is a must have on Gutpile's list O' toyz.

i know there was a run of AR10's that where 22-250 but you dont see much info on them. I havent seen anything from rra on a 22-250 yet. I have thought long and hard about a 223wssm but I have the brass for a 22-250 already :dunno:

To my knowledge, a 22-250 will not fit an AR15.  Are you sure it wasn't an AR10?  The problem with the AR15 platform is the magazine length.  I have an upper in 223 WSSM (ballistics not quite a 22-250 but close), and one in 25 WSSM, (between a 257 Roberts, and a 25-'06), and I love them both.

Oops, I guess I didn't read the first post!  I saw the title, and I KNEW there is absolutely no way it will fit...then I went back and read;

they lengthened the mag well buy like a 1/4"

Now that really IS interesting!  I'm not sure what is gained, but it is DEFINATELY interesting.  Next stop...300WSM?

Apparently, Black Hole Weaponry is doing the same thing. It would be great to see the 22-250 come to a new platform. For those of you that are not aware of this company, they are based in Moses Lake, Wa. and make their own barrels, they are not rifled blanks either, complete from bar stock and they seem to have a pretty good handle on how to do this. Check out the website and see some of the cool offerings.

That's where I got my 6.5 barrel from, and I love it.  It shoots way better than I can.

FALFire is right,  :yike: the folks at Blackhole make superb products.  I personally have 5 barrels that came from their facility.  Very nice people, always willing to help.  Carl is amazing with some of the Ideas he has, he is definitely very passionate about what he dose.  I will have to add a 22-250 to my family of black rifles as well...

I have the Oly arms .243 WSSM and would not want a .22-250. I used to own one and got rid of it. It just didn't have a wide enough range of use.
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Sounds cool, if I was an ammo maker I would invest in making AR's in all calibers.  They burn through ammo.  I will have to keep the bolt action as it's the only way I can still afford to shoot the larger calibers.   :chuckle:
