Salt

Anyone else hate salt?  It gets everywhere and everything rust it drives me nuts worse than my wife.   What is everyones trick??  Do most of you have a seperate place you flesh and salt your hides??

fishing, I rinse my flybox and reel out everytime after use.   Hides, noooooo not really.  I have a bed liner in and I make sure I get all the salt out I can.

I have a salt box outside now. Its 4x8 with rubber tires. I keep it under the shop roof and it has a heater that is set at 70 degrees. 24 hours in the salt , shake off and dry.
I did get salt everywhere, and yes rust too!!

I've never really had a problem with salting.  I salt in my shop.  Usually a few hides at a time.  I clean up any spilled salt daily.  I mop the floor and I keep the salt away from metal.  Eventually I will get a shed built seperate from the shop that I will do my salting in.

Thats not good!  I did that a couple times.  It comes in handy when their is ice on the drive way!

i just put salt on a big spool/table. then do my best to clean it off when it's not in use.
we also keep all the tools far away from there.

side story.......when I was a kid in Twisp the walkway kind of became slick, so I thought cool, its -5 out, I'll water it and make it real fun.  Idabooner was impressed Im sure.  So genuis here, or your truly, takes a bucnh of salt from the feed room, and spreads it all over the ice, which made it not so slick again.   Then come spring and the next two years, no grass or a big brown streak in front of our house.

Between salting the yard, and boiling dead animal skulls in my moms house in her new pots.............I put cinnamon in with it so it sdidn't smell so bad.

This is a little off subject but humorusall the same. When I was about 8 my dad killed a nice blacktail. He was boiling the skull cap with me there by his side watching. Dad said , do you want to try some antler soup. Of course what would an 8 year old say, YA! Dad says here son . I'll add a little salt to it for ya and then gave me a big spoon full. Of course it went right back out of my mouth and good Ol' dad was lauphing his ars off.

When I first started dabbling in taxidermy I use to wash deer capes and hides in the bath tub.  Step mom put an end to that when she came home and found one hanging in the shower draining.  I learned that 5 gallon buckets and garden hoses are a much better idea.

About the same response I got when the wife found out I was tumbling deer hides in our brand new clothes dryer.
