Who makes a good bugle call for a beginner?  I've got a Hunter's Specialty that is very limited on the call but you can't mess it up either.

I wish I could have attended the seminar.

The experts know better than I, but I highly highly recommend learning to use a reed type mouth call then you ability to make all kinds of elk sounds increases 100 fold.

Palmer,

Have you tried a diaphragm call???  If you can make some noise out of it without gagging, you are in business.  I would highly recommend you learn how to use a diaphragm call.  They make you extremely versatile in the woods.  I use the Mini Master, and Raging Bull from Bugling Bull Game Calls.  All of the Bugling Bulls calls seem to fit my mouth really well and the sounds are spot on!!!!  You will have to find out what works for you and your palate.  I wish you could come to one of my seminars.  I am performing one on July 31st in Wenatchee at High Mt. Hunting Supply, August 15th at 3 rivers Archery in Longview, and August 22nd at Rainier Archery in Graham, WA.   Also, don't worry about messing up a call,,,elk make some of the craziest sounds you have ever heard!!!!  You just need to know some calling techniques and how to use the terrain to your advantage!!!

Take Care,

JT
