Another unknown bird
« on: May 28, 2008, 11:54:28 PM »
Got a couple more birds that came in to the bird feeder. Actually they were sitting on the ground under it picking up whatever the other birds had dropped. Unusual looking birds. I've got no clue what they are, except one's a male and the other's a female. Anybody?

That's the Evening Grosbeak, we also have the Black Headed Grosbeak, cool to see either one and they have a pretty distinct tune.

Thanks Dman for the additional info. I'm not sure I've ever seen one before. Probably have, but just didn't know it or don't remember. We're all out of bird seed now. I'll have to pick up another bag this weekend.

This is one of my favorites.  I do see them very often but they are a stunning bird.

Thats one of my absolute favorites.  Cedar waxwings.   I planted a mountain ashe on my property just to attract them when they come through.

Cedar wax wings will land on you if you stand really still. Pretty but not the brightest chick in the brood.
We had a Crossbeak finch visit us last year. At first I thought it was some weird deformity.
