Clam report...
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:51:32 PM »
Today we got up at 6 and drove the 2 hours to long beach. Me, my best friend and 3 kids.
We got to oysterville at 8, on the beach by 8:15. All 5 of us were done in 20 minutes. I could care less if we got big clams or not. But all were medium sized with 2-3 smaller, not mini's but smaller than the rest.

We never got closer than 30 feet of the surf. Great digging today. And the kids had an awesome time.

That's great! 5 limits in 20 mins, hell my wife an I didn't get 1 limit in two days in the early April dig. Still had a great time though and hope to be back soon.

I would have had 5 limits, but damn family thinks clamming is about messing around on the beach... ;D
I got talked into spending Friday night at a Hotel/Motel so we got there in the evening, flew kites and messed around.
Next morning, no-one was up, so I watched the sunrise and walked around until I saw my first "show",
dug a quick limit, and went back to the hotel to get the family.........
an hour and a half later we FINALLY made it back to the beach, except now it was almost low tide and the good area was up in the hard sand, and dug up pretty good.
my wife dug her limit while the kids played in the surf, then had to go change their clothes so we could get back home and ride the "Easter Train" @ 2:30...
then, just to make it interesting, I had a brake-line come undone just as I slowed to 35 coming into Frances .  :yike:
with luck the house across the street had people home and the guy had a hose clamp and some brake fluid, so 20 min. later we were on the road again, but my daughters were heart broken that they were going to miss the train. :'(
I decided to try and talk them into just letting them do the egg hunt, so we went anyhow, and they had so many people show up that they were going to do the train one more time and my girls got to be in the hunt !!  :whoo:
So it all worked out great, except I only got 2 limits of clams for the trip, and the kids got some melted chocolate..
pretty expensive clam dinner.

Nice work.  Anyone have any thoughts on the May dig and if/when it will be??  I'm guessing 20-22nd.

They could do 2 in May if there is enough allocation.
I went Thursday thru Saturday and from Ocean Shores to Moclips was good again. Clams are bigger and way more abundant. Bout 15 minutes to limit!

Went down on the last day of the 5 day dig. Hundreds of people there and between that and keeping an eye on 3 kids in the water we went home with 4 clams between 2 people digging. LOL. Had a good time though for sure.
