Which Suppressor to choose?
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:48:33 PM »
I have been looking at suppressors for several years as the neighbors are closing in and don't like me shooting anymore.  In attempt to be nice with them I have decided to purchase one for my 10/22 which then can be used for my other .22's as well.  With the new changes in favor of them the timing is right.  I wanted to see what other individuals may be using for the .22 suppressors if they are currently using them.  I have been looking at several companies.  Silencerco, Liberty Suppressors, Tactical Solutions, AWC-Silencers and Gemtech.  I am leaning towards the Silencerco - Sparrow model.  Anyone with any info on these, would be appreciated.  Not out to hunt with them, just continue shooting them safely in my backyard without getting the neighbors stirred up.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

Not sure where you are from but I thought High Mountain Hunting in Wenatchee was going to have all the dealers at their place to do some demos.  Might we worth checking out.

h2ofowlr,

Some of the dealers in Western Washington recommend the SWR silencer.  Mainly because of the materials used for manufacture and the ability to disassemble and clean (serious consideration for 22 LR silencers).  Remember with a rifle you also have to be careful of the velocity of the ammunition you are using.

There is a good silencer forum here:  http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/

The address for SWR is here:  http://www.swrmfg.com/

I'm using a SWR specter, sounds like a bb gun with CCI standard velocity out of a 10-22.Comes apart for cleaning. Can also handle 17s 22 mag or 5.7x28.

I'd suggest taking a look at the folkd at Thompson Machine. Smaller operation, great people and low priced/very effective cans

....That or take the Form1 route  ;) Should be MUCH more fun

That's what my plan is.  Those commercially available suppressors are so far overpriced for what it takes to manufacture that the industry is worse than the payday loan industry for usury rates!  I'll gladly build my own that's twice the size and 1/2 the effectiveness before I'll pay through the nose.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!
