Toutle or Margaret?
« on: May 03, 2011, 07:48:01 AM »
This will be the year that I draw my archery cow tag (maybe).  I usually put in for the Margaret unit because I have some experience in this unit, however they tend to give more tags in the Toutle.  So the question is.....Would you put your points towards an archery cow tag in the Toutle or Margaret?

Why not put Marg down for 1st choice and Toutle for second?
Either one should give a similar experience, with at least a somewhat better chance to score than general units open for antlerless.
Only downside I have experienced is that if Weyco has gates open for early season there can be a lot of people in those units (hunting, scouting, cruising, etc.) and its almost like a general hunt in terms of total people in there.

Also saw they giving 200 cow permits for the winston unit in January 2012

You shouldn't have any trouble either way. . . . Those are actually the hunts I plan to burn my antlerless points on too after I draw my quality/bull tags.

That's what he was asking about is a cow hunt.

Personally, I'm not going to apply for Toutle because of how many permits they are giving out. It's going to be almost like a general season hunt. Yes there still should be plenty of elk, but I wouldn't waste my points on it. I would consider Margaret and Mudflow, just because if I'm going to burn points I want to hunt with less people than I would in a general season unit.

Niether theres no elk in either of those units. :chuckle: You can drive the toutle unit year round and if they open up the marget then its open for everyone and there will be people crusing both units so i dont think that you should factor people in you equation. :twocents:

Well you cn drive a small part of the Toutle unit year round. But your right about the people.I wouldnt factor it in either. You will have people running around, but its nothing like a general season.
