Montana Elk Outfitter Recommendations?
« on: May 10, 2011, 08:07:47 AM »
Going to MT this year for deer/elk and my buddy wants to try a drop camp or semi-guided 2 on 1 type of hunt instead of a DIY hunt.  Anyone have any recommendations for an Outfitter that won't break the bank?  I've searched through pages and pages of outfitters on the internet and have only found a couple that offer hunts for under $2000.  One Outfitter (Broken Arrow Lodge) boned us by telling us they had one spot open for a drop camp, took my buddy's credit card number for a deposit (but never ran it through), and then 3 weeks later they emailed my buddy (after he contacted them with questions) telling him that they "made a mistake" and there was nothing available for a drop camp hunt; however, we could use their "Lodge Hunt", which basically is just staying at their lodge and driving to hunting areas they "point us towards"!  Thanks in advance.

Check out Two Bear Outfitters! http://www.elkoutfitters.com/  I believe they are in your price range, Alan the owner is a great guy & really caters to both bowhunters & rifle hunters. I will be up there this Sept. myself to check out the elk hunting!

Not sure where you plan on going or when, but some friends went on a Bob Marshall early rifle hunt a few years ago with Snowy Springs Outfitters.  They spoke very well of them, but I know their pricing is not the cheapest, but also not the most expensive.

Somewhere near Alder, MT; at least that's their PO Box.  They told my friend that their drop camp was in the Lower Ruby Valley.  Their website states that all hunting is within a 15-20 mile radius of their lodge.  Since I've hunted the Rubys and other areas around Dillon, I'll do a DIY hunt first, rather than pay for their lodge hunt after the way they treated us.

Went into the Bob Marshall with Sun Canyon Lodge a while back and really enjoyed it. Would definately recomend them. Talk to Josh Carlbaum, he's a good guy. They do have a drop camp option  that puts you over 20 miles into the wilderness and theres allot of animals.

When we went the main camp was located on Cabin Creek if I remember right. We hunted allot behind Horse Mountain and around the "airstrip" and even did a little hunting up by Bigs Creek which is where im told one of the main camps are now.
