.243 rounds?
«

Howdy
Going to pick up the girls rifle in the morning and was wondering what you would suggest as a starting point for .243 ammo for her. She is going to be hunting deer and predators. The gun is a Remington 700 ADL. I'm not sure the rate of twist or any of that stuff. I was thinking 95 gr or 100 gr. What are your thoughts?
Thanks

80 grains and up, you'll be fine for deer and predators. The Federal Fusion 95 grain load is a good bet. Right now, I'm shooting 58 grain V-Max Hornady loads for coyote and Fusion for deer. You can't go wrong with any of the commercial 100 grain loads. I'm going to try out the Federal 80 grain ammo as a dual-purpose load.

I would get some Federal Classics in 100 grain. Good loads. I reload 100grain Hornaday interlock's with 40.5grans of IMR 4350 using CCI 200 large rifle primer. Great shooting load for me. Also, dont trust my reloading data, work up your own load in your rifle! Have fun with your new purchase, I am sure your Girls will be excited!

The kid that hunts with us uses the Winchester Elite xp3 rounds. I think they're 95 grains.

Nice job getting the girl involved. Factory 100gr rounds will handle deer and varmints. My son shot his first 4 deer with a .243 with 100gr Sierra BT including a decent MT 4pt mule deer. I know the .243 has light recoil but if you reload there are reduced loads in the Speer manual(1800fps) that are great for kids to practice with.

I've been told the .243 was made for 100 gr bullets. She'll love it!

You had better check the twist rate on the barrel. It needs a twist of 1:10 or faster for 100 gr. and you cannot load above 100 gr. in a 1:10 twist. I am using the new Nosler .243 bullets in 105 and 107 gr. but i have a 1:8 twist.

I have shot both 85 Partitions and 85 TSX's over a middle charge of H4350 and they get the job done. I'm not sure premium bullets and needed for deer but they sure work well. I wouldn't hesitate to use Sierra's HPBT either. If they put it through the heart/lungs the game's over.

Well you'll have to see what the gun likes first. My dads doesn't like anything over 85gr. Mine likes 95 noslers and they just came out with a accubond that would be worth a look
